ABOUT

Tiberius III Apsimar - usurper of the usurper Leontius

Who needs gold?  Many look to gold as an inflation hedge.  Our suppliers used gold to bribe border guards, pay tribute to Visigoths, and secure mercenaries.  Others seek to richly furnish a burial chamber or finance an Iranian divorce.  Aliens repair planet Nibiru's atmosphere with aerosolized gold.  Maybe you just need a filling.

The best coin dealers say they don't collect coins.

If they did, they'd keep the best coins for themselves.  They'd be in competition with their clients.

I collect coins.  I am keeping the best coins for myself.  But I can't afford to keep all of them.  You might never win Ben Stein's money, but you can still buy Silverman's gold.

Where do I get ancient coins?

The sprawling underworld of antiquities traffickers, crime bosses, money launderers, and tomb raiders.  That's why I make sure that, consistent with the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, all my inventory was stolen from museums before 1971.

Why gold?

You can eat gold, actually.  But it has no nutritional value.  Ingesting silver makes more sense because of its superior antimicrobial properties.

Gold coins come out of shipwrecks after 250 years in saltwater looking as good as the day they were struck.  Ancient people who wanted their symbol or portrait to reach future generations chose gold.  "Written in stone" only lasts a few thousand years under good conditions.  Stamped in gold is forever, or until it melts at 1,064 degrees Celsius.

Today gold is used in almost every electronic device because gold does not corrode like copper or silver.  Silver is the best conductor of electricity out of all the elements.  But when the connection simply has to be perfect and permanent, only gold will cut it.

Were ancient Central Ame, Egyptian, Indian, Persian, Greek, Chinese, and Celtic people all stacking gold for their space programs and sensitive circuitry?
