In 1590, Charles de Bourbon, also known as Charles X, was recognized as the legitimate King of France by Parliament on March 5, 1590. However, he never effectively ruled because he remained in prison and died there on May 9, 1590
 
He was born in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre on September 22, 1523.
 
He was imprisoned after the assassination of the Duke of Guise in 1588
 
Charles X gold Ecu d'Or ND (1590)-A AU58 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-389. 3.31gm. Struck after the extinction of the House of Valois, which occurred upon the death of Henri III in 1589. The reign of Charles X, who had been a cardinal and Archbishop of Rouen, did not last long, as he renounced the throne in favor of Henri IV after just a few months.
